Medicare Supplement
Definition
Medicare Supplement Insurance, commonly called Medigap, is private insurance that fills the gaps in Original Medicare coverage — including deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
More Detail
Medicare Supplement policies are standardized by the federal government and sold by private insurers. Each standardized plan offers the same benefits regardless of which company sells it. Plans are identified by letters (A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N). Plan G is currently one of the most comprehensive plans available to new enrollees. A Medicare Supplement policy does not include prescription drug coverage — you would need a separate Part D plan.
