Full Retirement Age

Definition

Full Retirement Age (FRA) is the age at which you become eligible to receive your full Social Security retirement benefit, without any reduction for claiming early.

More Detail

Your FRA depends on your birth year. For anyone born in 1960 or later, FRA is 67. For those born between 1943 and 1954, FRA was 66. For birth years between 1955 and 1959, FRA is between 66 and 67. Claiming before your FRA permanently reduces your monthly benefit. Claiming after your FRA earns delayed retirement credits that permanently increase your benefit.
